BC Hydro Walkthrough

Having recently moved to our new office, Tourism Vancouver Island’s “Green Team” wanted to make sure the new office was ‘PowerSmart’. As a result, we had BC Hydro come by and do a no-cost “BC Hydro & Livesmart BC Walkthrough” of our office.

What exactly is a Livesmart BC Walkthrough? Well, a BC Hydro representative comes to your office to inspect your lighting and other electricity powered products to determine if your office could be using electricity more efficiently. After their inspection you are given a report outlining what you can do to improve. A very interesting component of their report is that they also explain the incentives that are given for replacing inefficient equipment as well as the expected time it will take to pay back the cost of the upgrade. For example, did you know that replacing your old emergency exit signs with new more efficient LED ones takes only about 9 months to payback. After this, you will save $35 per year on EACH sign.

As for our Walkthrough, Tourism Vancouver Island fared very well. We of course had the benefit of being in a newly renovated building, but aside from a few items we could improve, we were a model of high efficiency.
