Post Consumer Materials Add up to Savings!

We have been keeping track of the types of office supplies we use, and the amount of financial difference small changes would make; it is pretty surprising. Since implementing our Green Initiatives at Tourism Vancouver Island, I have been trying to reduce the amount of paper used in our Brochure Distribution Program. I took it upon myself to change our envelopes to recycled, and here is what I discovered:

Un-recycled envelopes (Large Size, Self-Sealing): $0.19 each

Recycled envelopes (Medium Size, regular seal): $0.13 each

The recycled envelopes not only represent an annual savings of nearly $106, but they are also made with 40% less paper.

We also switched our extra-large envelopes to recycled:

Unrecycled: $108.44/500 = $0.22 each

Recycled: $50.12/500 = $0.10 each

This represents a cost reduction of 55%. Considering that we could easily go through 20,000 envelopes in a year, this could be a savings of up to $2400 annually.

With small changes, you can not only help the environment, but your bottom line as well!
