How will YOU make a difference today?

Tourism Vancouver Island wants to know how you are celebrating Earth Day!

Did you ride your bike to work or school this morning or plan to this week?  Did you buy fresh fruits or vegtables from a local farm or market  or plan to eat an organic meal tonight?  Did you bring in your own coffee mug to Starbucks today to get your free cup of coffee or do you have plans for something BIGGER and GREENER!?  We want to know!!

Today I am going to ditch the treadmill and go for a run outside!

I’m going to get start growing vegetables/herbs. Even from only my condo deck I think it is quite possible to do this, and it helps both the environment and the wallet!

Also, when I pick up groceries today I am going to make sure I buy local food. For example, in Nanaimo we have Paradise Island cheese, which is made right here in town. Sometimes it is a bit more expensive, but buying local products so that the money stays here and helps the people who live in my city, just makes a lot of sense to me–especially in these tough economic times.

I walked to work this morning, and will take public transportation home. I am also taking a reusable bag to get groceries after work and will make dinner in the toaster oven, instead of a full sized oven, to save electricity.

  4. Vicky Says:

I am going to keep my reusable grocery bags in the car so there is no forgetting and then having to use plastic bags.

Just an update…I got mini-tomatoes and lavender plants! Can’t wait to start eating my own produce (not the lavender but the tomatoes)!
