What is cool, solid and green?

Take a look at these objects and guess what they are and what they are used for?

solid

Did you guess Lego or ink for your print? Well if you believe it, the latter is correct. And I don’t think anyone could be criticized for not knowing these blocks were actually solid ink.

Solid ink technology utilizes solid ink sticks in lieu of the fluid ink or toner powder usually used in printers. After the ink stick is loaded into the printing device, it is melted and used to produce images on paper in a process similar to offset printing. Xerox, the maker of solid ink printers, claims that solid ink printing produces more vibrant colors than other methods, is easier to use, can print on a wide range of media, and is more environmentally friendly due to reduced waste output.  And might I add, the idea of using solid ink is also kind of fun. Kind of like melting crayons as a kid, except this time no one will get mad at you! Also, it should be noted the sticks are non-toxic and safe to handle.

There is debate as to the overall advantages of Solid Ink printers, but it does show you there are alternatives out there. So when making your next capital purchase you may want to look outside the box, there could be a SOLID option that is green too.
